Our parents are an important part of our school life. They take an active part in the school and can contribute to various working groups of the Montessori School Wiesbaden. The working hours are counted towards the parents’ hours.
Several parents work together in the library team over the course of a school year. At the weekly lending times of the respective groups, an adult supports the library mentors (mostly older pupils) of the classes as library service. The main person in charge of the library team is the interface between the pedagogical team, the school management and the office for all library questions. For example, he or she schedules library hours, communicates with the daily library service, takes care of the library space, buys new books and sorts out books for the book flea market.
Work in the school garden mainly takes place during the gardening season from April to October. There are several raised beds in front of the school, which are lovingly planted and tended by pupils before the fresh harvest can be used by the school cook Tobi and in the cooking club. The school garden team supports the pupils in creating and repairing the beds, planting them in spring and watering them during the dry summer months.
Café Gleitzeit is the culinary heart of the Montessori school at public events. Here, guests and parents of the Montessori school are catered for at parties and events. The catering team plans and organises both the preparation and the work on the day of the event. They prepare lists of helpers and post lists of what food and drinks are needed. On the day itself, they take care of setting up and taking down the buffet, the dishes and the drinks. The catering team is used for school festivals, the school induction ceremony and the semi-annual open day.
The public relations team takes care of reporting on the daily life and festivities of the Monti. Several parents share the communication tasks through different channels. This includes research for posts and topics, developing texts for the Monti website, taking photos at festivals and events, and creating graphic collages for social media. The team members maintain and update our school’s website and create posts on Facebook & Instagram. For the annual production of the school newspaper, our Montipost, at the end of the school year, parents help create the layout and find sponsors for advertising.
The school events are the social highlights of the school year at Monti. They bring parents, pupils, teachers and school staff together for a good time. In order for the whole thing to work, hard-working hands are needed in the background. The summer festival includes the organisation of a raffle, a sponsored run and various game stations. On the last weekend of the summer holidays, the organisation team invites the future first graders with their parents and godparents to a welcome picnic in the woods.
Our Montessori school house needs to be kept in good shape. For this purpose, smaller and larger repair and renovation work is constantly needed, which is carried out jointly by the parents on certain weekends. The head of the renovation team is the central contact person for the helpers and organises people and material on site.
