We are proud to have been able to offer our fourth-graders from all groups a five-day swimming camp once a year at a youth guest house in Baden-Württemberg with our Monti teachers since 2022.
We share the growing concern of the German Lifesaving Society (Deutschen Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft) that almost half of children complete primary school without being able to swim safely. We do our part to ensure that our Monti children are well equipped for their “swimming life”. Building on the compulsory swimming lessons in third grade, the children have the opportunity to deepen and develop the swimming techniques they have already learnt at our swimming camp.
Experienced swimming instructors teach our participants during the daily booked swimming times in the nearby swimming pool. In addition to swimming games, the training programme includes endurance training, distance and ring diving, relay and medley swimming, starting jumps, gate diving, breathing techniques and body coordination.
The Monti children eat their daily meals together in their accommodation and, in addition to plenty of swimming time, can also enjoy the guest house’s leisure activities or simply relax.
For the first time in 2024, we were able to organise a first aid course for children through the Malteser-Hilfsdienst as a special quality bonus. The children are taught during the swimming week.
In addition to the content-related challenges, the swimming camp strengthens the team spirit of our Monti children. The kids cheer each other on to mobilise their last reserves in the water. The joy and enthusiasm and sometimes also the amazement of the children at having improved their own swimming performance enormously is a great joy for us!
Participation in the swimming camp is voluntary and is financially supported by funding programmes.
