Course system as of the school year 2023/2024

As of the school year 2023/2024, we are adding a course system to our pedagogical concept. The first learning time starts between 7.30 am and 8.00 am and ends at 10.30 am. After a half-hour breakfast break in the respective group rooms and in the break area, the second learning time begins until lunch at 12.30 pm. During this time, the pupils learn together in their mixed-age groups. This time is reserved daily for the Freiarbeit and is supported by two teachers.  Art, experiential education, peace workshop and cosmic education are taught in the Freiarbeit of the respective mixed-age group. The subjects of music and sport are also integrated into the free work, but are taught across groups in the same age group.

In the third learning time (Monday to Thursday from 1.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.), children can choose from a selection of courses to create their own personalised learning time. For example, they can choose from courses in English, biology, science, language, media design, experiments, wood workshop, Monti-Post and school gardening in close cooperation with the school company. In this way, we offer our pupils the opportunity to pursue their interests in greater depth or to discover and develop completely new subject areas.

All first-graders take part in the course “Hurray! – I’m a schoolchild”. Exercises to promote graphomotor skills and work organisation, which are so important in everyday school life, are an important part of this course. Our second-graders visit our cooperation partner “Hof Armada” every Friday from 8.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. (winter break in December and January). Compulsory swimming lessons for Year 3 take place once a week at lunchtime. Our fourth-graders are prepared for secondary school in the weekly “Fit for Fifth Form” course.

The choice of courses is made every six months. In addition to the interests of the pupils, course recommendations can be made by the teachers in consultation with the parents. School hours end Monday to Thursday at 3 pm and on Fridays at 12.30 pm (without lunch) and 1.30 pm (with lunch).
The groups are taught by two specialist staff with a Montessori diploma (or in training), with creative teachers standing in. As a rule, they also support the group teams during the daily free work in the first and second learning periods.
